PURECRU WINERY

Although legendary Napa Valley winemaker Mitch Cosentino is no longer affiliated with the winery that bears his name, he is busier than ever producing outstanding varietals across the board, at his pureCru Winery and as a consultant for the J. McClelland Brand of wines, which are a product of the Scotto Family and produced at their Scotto Steele Canyon Winery.

We had the pleasure of meeting our old friend Mitch and enjoying a comprehensive and relaxed tasting of his portfolio of superb wines! Our “Absolute Must Tries”: We began with the 2016 Purity, inspired by some of the great white Bordeaux “Blanc” wines, this perfect Florida summer wine is a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, both barrel fermented and aged in French oak made specifically for these grape varieties. Next was the 2015, pureCru Chardonnay Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley, some of the grapes used to produce this excellent Chardonnay comes from Mitch’s personal home vineyard. Following this refreshing Chard, we moved to the outstanding reds beginning with the 2015, Sangio Vetta, the 2015, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013, CFM, a unique blend Mitch made a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, punched cap fermented and aged 39 months in selected French Oak—outstanding! We then moved to the 2015 pureCoz Red Wine, a proprietary blend, the soon-to-be-released 2016, Secret 7 Cabernet Sauvignon, a superb blend of different vineyard blocks of the rarest clone of Cabernet in Napa Valley.

We ended with the 2013 M Coz Red, an intense and focused Bordeaux-styled Meritage with a heritage going back to the original 1988 vintage. This blend is an annual award winner whose release is anxiously awaited by serious oenophiles, due to its very limited production and its reputation as being equal or superior to the greatest wines in the world made with Bordeaux red grape varietals.
We always look forward to sharing time with Mitch, who is as passionate about making wine, and doing it without cutting corners, as anyone in the business!
