When we decided to visit Dublin one of the first things we discussed was that James Fox was a must-visit. For over 125 years this Dublin institution has been the go-to place for fine Irish Whiskey and premium Cuban Cigars. James J. Fox carries the largest selection of long-filler handmade cigars in Ireland, maintains them in a state-of-the-art humidified environment and is the only establishment in Ireland to carry the Habanos certificate of authenticity.” Along with the Cigars and Whiskey, the shop has expanded its inventory to include fine Scotch and Wines. We were greeted by Yiorgos Manesis, who is in charge of E-Commerce, and given a brief tour of the shop. He then took us behind the scenes to the basement to meet Managing Director David A. McGrane, who has over 40 years of experience in fine Cigars and a love for Irish Whiskey!
We told David we had read about James Fox in Cigar Aficionado and were there to see the outstanding selection of aged Cuban Cigars. It was 11:30 in the morning and the first question David asked was would you like to sample some Irish Whiskey? Our answer an enthusiastic “yes! He then proceeded to pour us a generous shot of Bushmill’s 400th-anniversary Whiskey. It doesn’t get much better sitting, sipping and learning all about the legendary aged Habano selection in the humidified lockers at James Fox. Some of the highlights were vintage H. Upmann Connoisseur No. 1’s, aged limited edition Partagas Piramides, and an array of unbelievable Cohibas and Montecristos. We enjoyed some of these at the outdoor bar on the 7th floor of the Marker Hotel, with of course some great libations!
