PEJU PROVINCE WINERY
In 1983 Tony and Herta Peju purchased 30 acres of land in Rutherford and founded Peju Province Winery. Over the years they introduced their daughters Lisa and Ariana to the wine business and today they are still a family owned and operated estate winery. The first thing you notice when pulling into the Peju estate is the magnificent Tower tasting room, which was completed in the fall of 2003.
Tony Peju came up with the tower concept even before he purchased the property and its image has graced the label of every estate-bottled Peju wine since. With a lofty ceiling and a mezzanine, the large, open room houses a complete selection of books on food, wine and Napa Valley history; crystal decanters and stemware, wine accessories, local olive oils, custom made mustards, and other goodies, all lit by a massive 1906 antique stained glass window.
Peju offers a wide variety of tasting experiences and we had the pleasure of enjoying a great lunch prepared by talented Chef Alex Espinoza, in the garden in front of his wood burning pizza oven.
We started with a Gruyere Pate, Sonoma Brie, Stone Fruit Compote appetizer paired with the Peju 2011 Piccolo, Napa Valley. Our next delectable course was Parmesano-Reggiano and Panko crusted Buttermilk Fired Chicken paired with the 2014, Peresphone Vineyard Chardonnay, Napa Valley, followed by Asiago Sourdough and Onion crusted Piozzi Ranch Lamb paired with 2012 Napa Valley Syrah.
Grilled Snake River Farms Beef Tenderloin followed with the 2012 Napa Valley Cab as the perfect pairing and Mascarpone Cheesecake with the 2103 Napa Valley Liana desert wine to top off a fabulous dining experience! Our “Absolute Must Tries”: the 2012, Peju Petit Verdot, the 2012, Peju Napa Valley Syrah’ the 2012, Peju Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2011, Peju Piccolo.
A big thank you to Chef Espinoza, Ann Marie Howle and the rest of the great Peju staff for a memorable experience! To plan a visit to Peju go http://www.peju.com; or call 800.446.7358.
