A great interest in farming and a love of fine wines attracted Tony Peju to the Napa Valley. Tony’s dreams for Peju Winery were cultivated by his experiences in France, England and Los Angeles. In 1983, Tony and his wife Herta purchased 30 acres of land in the Napa Valley, in the ideal location for producing premium wines!
Peju’s Rutherford vineyards border those of Robert Mondavi, Inglenook and Beaulieu Vineyard. Tony and Herta continue to play an
important advisory role, however daughters Lisa and Ariana with a strong management team are now leading the future direction of the winery.
Conveniently located on Route 29 in the heart of Rutherford Peju Winery is always a must-stop for us. We have taken groups and enjoyed fabulous group luncheons from their in-house chef. Peju offers 3 options; The “Farm-to-Table Luncheon” is a 90-minute experience for 4 to 12 guests. You will experience a fabulous personally tailored farm-to-table lunch while you chat with their talented winery chef about food preparation, various cooking techniques and wine pairings.
The “Interactive Culinary Experience” is a 3-hour adventure designed for 4 to 20 guests. This interactive experience begins in the winery kitchen or at their picturesque wood-fired brick oven located among the vines. There you will craft a delicious meal together, pick vegetables and herbs from their nearby organic garden and learn the intricacies of preparing delicious farm-to-table, wine-country inspired meals.
Option 3 is the “Peju Wine and Culinary Exploration” which is for a minimum of 8 guests. Your group will explore the art of pairing food and wine in an intimate wine and culinary setting in one of Peju’s stunning winery settings. Hand-crafted seasonal small bites are prepared by the winery chef and paired with a selection of their fabulous current release wines. Since all of Peju’s dining experiences are farm to the table menu’s change frequently based on the season.
We love all 3 of these experiences offered by Peju however you can also create your own experience. In addition to gaining exclusive access to their limited production wines and stunning winery setting, they handle every detail which entails professional event planning and assistance, group activities, entertainment, in-house catering, personalized menus, linens, seating, flatware, stemware, florals, and educational winery tours. We have brought groups there for delectable luncheons in their gardens, which is always considered the highlight of their Napa Valley experience!
Prior to lunch with wine on the last visit we were expertly taken through Peju’s “reserve tasting” by expert “Wine Educator” Jeff Vaughn. We started with the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa. This excellent Cab was followed by the 2015 “Fifty/Fifty” a superb blend of 50% Cabernet and Merlot! Next up was the 2016 “Experiment” a smooth 100% Napa Cabernet. That was followed by their award-winning 2014 “Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve” 100% sourced from Peju’s Rutherford vineyards. The final offering was another award-winning varietal the 2014 “Cabernet Franc Reserve” This is one wine you do not want to miss! It is largely considered one of the top Cab Franc’s in the Valley!!
