Materra and Cunat Family Vineyards is the newest winery to be built in the Napa Valley. Situated on a property that is entirely self-contained with its own water source, this hi-tech facility has all of the latest and greatest technology available to the wine industry including the very impressive Gen II Control system which monitors all of the tanks as the grapes go through the fermentation process.
The entire operation is 100% solar powered and you can feel the newness all around you in the beautifully designed and decorated Tasting Room and Library; everything is sparkling clean and fresh.
Materra, which means “Mother Earth, is the creation of Brian and Miki Cunat and it is truly a family run operation. Oldest daughter, Neena Cunat Heitz oversees the daily operations of the winery as well as the company’s public relations efforts.
Their younger daughter has been instrumental in the designs of the product labels and collateral materials. The Cunat family is involved in every facet of the winemaking process and they are assisted by Consulting Winemakers, Bruce Regalia and Michael Trujillo, both well known in the wine industry.
After a tour of this amazing facility we enjoyed a wonderful tasting with Brian and Neena. Our “Absolute Must Tries” are: the Materra Chardonnay, 2013; the 2008, Materra Merlot and the 2010, Cunat Reserve, a red blend that we loved! “Impressive” is a word that easily describes this new winery and the beautiful wines that are made there.
