The award-winning Compadres Bar & Grill is a favorite gathering place for locals and visitors alike in the Napa Valley and the awards they have received tell you why: the “Best Mexican Restaurant,” “Best Margarita” and “Best Outdoor Dining.”
For 20 years the Enos family owned and operated Compadres in downtown Yountville. For the past 8 years, it has been located on the scenic Napa River affording a relaxed, casual atmosphere to go along with the Mexican style fare, the full bar featuring Tequila based cocktails and local wines and craft beers.
We had the pleasure of meeting with founder and owner Rick Enos and it was a perfect evening to sit outside and enjoy the great food, the great wine and the great company. We enjoyed the Prawn Tostadas – lightly fried fresh corn tortillas spread with garlic aioli, and topped with a mixture of Gulf prawns, diced avocado, orange segments, and red bell peppers tossed with olive oil and cilantro, the Avocado Fries – large ripe Haas avocados cut into wedges, beer battered, lightly fried, dusted with Castillo pepper, and served with creamy garlic ranch dipping sauce, and, the amazing Topopos – grilled marinated steak or chicken breast atop a “mountain” of Mexican salad mix tossed with rice, grilled fresh corn, chopped Roma tomatoes, tortilla strips, cotija cheese, and tomato vinaigrette over whole beans on a crisp corn tortilla, garnished with avocado slices and sour cream.

We paired all of this with a bottle of wine that we fell in love with…Down By Law Chardonnay by Chris Blanchard, and, of course, we had one of Compadres’ signature Margaritas.
