Charlie Palmer Steak, Napa Valley

After previously having visited and reviewed the Charlie Palmer Steak restaurant in Healdsburg, Sonoma we could not pass up the opportunity to do the same for their new restaurant in the lobby of the 4 Diamond Archer hotel in downtown Napa. As a steakhouse, Charlie Palmer Steak places a priority on buying meat directly from small producers whose focus is on providing cleaner, more fully flavored beef. Their seasoned staff continuously works to upgrade the customary core cuts with meat that adheres to contemporary sourcing practices.

Sourcing seasonal bounty from Napa Valley’s lush agricultural and viticultural regions influences the namesake chef’s bold, American-style menus under the direction of executive chef Francisco Lopez Jr. Employing a straightforward approach in the kitchen, this casually elegant establishment with an active downtown vibe highlights artisanal American beef superbly along with fresh seafood, chicken, chops, and vegetarian offerings.

Chef Lopez provided us with a sampling of his finest dishes starting with:

Domaine Carneros Brut Rose.

The Prime Platter brought chilled Maine lobster tails, poached prawns, king crab legs, with cocktail sauce and champagne mignonette. This was a superb collection of the finest seafood appetizers!

Next were Seared Sea Scallops, baby zucchini, pattypan squash served with shishito peppers and romesco.

This was followed by a delectable Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras with raspberries, almonds, and brioche!

Seared Short Rib with quince puree, seared green and purple cabbage in red wine jus was the perfect complement following the Foie Gras.

Our next course, A5 Wagyu from the Miyazaki Prefecture in Japan, was a marvelous gourmet treat!

Our main course following the above amazing dishes consisted of Snake River Farms NY Strip, cooked to perfection, and served with peppercorn cream, apple horseradish cream, red wine natural au jus with perfectly selected side dishes of cream spinach with garlic crumbs, and new potato with aged cheddar.

During this gourmet feast, we sipped on a beautiful Julien Pilon, Rhone red wine.
