FOG HARBOR FISH HOUSE, PIER 39, SAN FRANCISCO
What a perfect way to start our visit to San Francisco…dinner at the Fog Harbor Fish House! Set in the midst of the bustling tourist mecca, Pier 39 on Fisherman’s Wharf, Fog Harbor is a gathering place for not only visitors but local families and business people alike. Created and run by the Simmons family, the original developers of Pier 39, it offers spectacular views of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.
As I write this my mouth is watering recalling the delectable meal and decadent desserts that we enjoyed. Chef Adolfo Soto wowed us with the beautiful Dungeness Crab Cocktail and the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail for starters. I have to mention the Sourdough bread that was served at every table…it was so good that it was literally a struggle not to finish the entire basket. We dined on delicious Cioppino filled with Crab meat, fresh fish, shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels stewed in a tomato herb broth and Crab Cakes for dinner and the spectacular dessert tray was enough to take your breath away.
The offerings included were huge portions of Warm Chocolate Fudge Cake with a rich creamy chocolate center and served with vanilla ice cream, Apple Crisp a la Mode, Tiramisu, Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding topped with vanilla bean sauce, Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee, and a Blondie Sundae.
Even if you do not have a sweet tooth it is impossible to walk away from that tray without trying something! Our meal was perfectly paired with a bottle of the Sonoma Cutrer, Les Pierres Estate Vineyard, Sonoma, California ’11.
